I'm well aware that you can't have the RA2 style credit generation but what about a negative cost upgrade like "Sell Oil" that gives money to you. You could limit the amount of times this can be done, essentially exhausting the oil in the well. This was just an thought that occurred to me while dissecting DTA in figuring out the handling of the component tower since it has an negative cost upgrade to refund money to the AI. Although it didn't occur to me until just now that this may only really work with the AI since I don't know how the game handles refunds when you have less money than it gave you.

Ah, well it was just something that crossed my mind and I figured I'd share it.

If you build something with negative cost, but don't place it down,
then use the given money to build something else (like a unit) and finally abort the construction of the negative cost building,
you can run into negative credits.
Though you can still harvest tib to get out of the debt.

The "Sell Oil" Upgrade doesn't sounds like such a bad idea. It's easy to implement on the existing oil pumps and easy to handle/use by the player too.

We would just have to play a bit with the Cost values to make this balanced.
e.g.
the building costs 5000cr, thus it gives you 2500 when being sold.
If you would place 3 upgrades with Cost=-1000, you would get 3000 credits for them.
But if you then sell the building with the 3 upgrades, the 3 upgrades will now cost you 500cr each, so +2500cr for the sold building and -1500cr for the upgrades, gives you 1000cr for the sold oil pump.

So in the end you get 4000cr if you build all 3 upgrades and then sell the building,
And you get 2500cr if you sell the oil pump directly.

The oil pump would need at least Cost=3000, so it doesn't cost you anything when selling it with the 3 upgrades.
But then players might end up destroying it to promote their units rather than selling it.

My thought was just make it unsellable so the mechanic changes from selling the building to placing these upgrades giving it a more long term use.

Maximum is 3 upgrades on one building. not more.
And upgrades can not be removed, once attached to a building.

You could just set the pump so that once its captured you can sell it for a huge amount.

I set them to 10.000 but the AI never captures them.

It is cool though when fighting 1 vs 7, sure does help.

That's bad, since you can destroy one of them, to get the unit instantly to elite.
Having right at the start of game a small group of elite tanks can be devastating for the enemy team.
Thus such high cost shouldn't be used.

It could also be considered an option, depending on the strength of the elite units. Do you want to make your first few tanks elite or do you take the significant cash bonus?
