One day I came to the PC and I saw that old soviet miner, then I realized how old it's. In modern times it should be outdated (even in RA2 universe).
So I started mixing parts of old harvester and TS devil tongue tanks.
This is result (edited Vxl viewer screenshot inside) Twisted Evil

I Don't like it. Not because that I'm against the majority of CnP things, but because it just doesn't look right. The hopper / container on the back looks good, but the tracks and front on the vehicle look... Well... I don't know what the word is, but those in-particular parts look really crumpled on 6 of the facings. It's also got the black dot disease, which I really dislike. Otherwise, nice work.

...design wise..its just not appealing to me.

concepts are tested if you can read what they are by mere silhouette. This method is used by the industry, I know its just a "hobby" and the "look I was bored, so I made this"...which think is a silly statement. but anyways.

its just too blocky...it needs nice little detail. it needs to be stylized..real things are designed with practicality in mind...costs production..etc..you don't have to worry about that..play around with that idea..

I it seems you did some research, in fact why not make different variants using different types of things you researched.

Black dots are problem, I tried fix them, but that container isn't simple box, so I fixed most of them and the rest is at edges of rails on sides.
The biggest problem of normals is applying normal map from another voxel, because it's too buggy.
I tried C n' P normals from source voxels (Harv, Utnk) into MS Paint, but reverse operation kicked blurred normals. Embarassed

It's blocky because it's simple then... Very Happy ... and compact.
I'll think about it.

To fix those black dots, use auto normalizer. The simpler the better and also use TS normals.

On the texture, your better off using a plane light brownish colour outlined in succession by one or 2 shades of darker brown around all the edges of the voxel. Outlining is the best way to make good looking voxels.

All in all i'll have to agree with both Aro and Icyson on this one. Research different styles of vehicle architectures and remember that simplicity is key, insignias on vehicles arn't really necessary, your better off using a strip of remap. I am glad though that you have used a grinder configuration for the ore collection method.

I used newest normalizer and the results on container were terrible, there was much more black dots (even black lines), so I tried fix them manually.

I am thinking about new camouflaged container.

Camoflauged? Personally, I wouldn't because this is supposed to blend in with the current Soviet scheme, no? 1 cammied miner is going to stick out a boatload against the stock Soviet stuff.

Try this (wasn't planing to go public with this yet, but what the hell)

AutoNormals 5.6
Rage between 1.7 and 2.2
Smooth checked
Build Influence Map cheked
Treat Descontinuities checked
Smooth level = 15
Contras level = 5

Notice that the differnece between Smooth and Contrast is 3:1. So Contrast=4 would get 4*3=12 and Smooth=12

The hardest will be improving grinder surface.
And I will add some ore in front of the cameo to be more readable.

I actually really, really like this. You're obviously very good with the texture tool.

Its shape is not the most appealing to me, but it's very sharp and nice looking, and fits in just fine! It's a nice change, and it differentiates it more from the allied miner. Smile

And while the allied miner doesn't look all that much like the soviet one, one can find similarities.

Ok, looks good but try this= use the 54-50 colours and paint either alterate sideways sections of each drum (so it will look striped from the front) OR do shaded spirals so you'll get a //////// effect on each roller.
