I'm pretty sure there is no known method of importing C&C3 model files (.w3x). I've not seen anyone with anything in a modelling program that wasn't from the sample art pack on the C&C3 website.

Though as they're text based you could sit and enter all the coordinates? #Tongue

Schmafoozius from Thundermods.net was working on an importer to get the W3X models in 3DSMax compatible formats. It is however neither finished nor released and might very well be in hibernation for some weeks.

Other than that, the 3d object converter and w3dm2ase are the only programs I know of that are capable of handling the W3X format.
You might want to take a look at the SampleArt packs released by EA, but they contain only a small portion of the models from TW.

Of those 2 programs to get those models ingame, 3d Object Converter is the easiest. Import the w3dm you exported from the game and then save as a 3ds or object file. But since it costs so much, w3dm2ase is your only option.

Cheers,

they arent w3x, they're w3dm.
i tried w3dm2ase, but it doesnt work at all, let alone batchconverting. and then i would need something to import ase-files.

w3dm2ase does work. You're doing it wrong. #Tongue

But 3dsmax can't import .ase files, only export them. :\

I hear Blender can import .ase files. So it would be a lengthy process of extracting the .w3dm from Tiberium Wars, converting it to .ase, importing it into Blender, and then exporting it into a format that 3dsmax/gmax can read

*sigh*
can you explain then, how i would use w3dm2ase, to convert the shitload of files i just extracted, while making sure the models i are to convert will retain their textures? if im doing it wrong, then the readme fails to explain it to me. (any known vista compatibility issues, BTW?)
i dont think it would be too hard once i get them in blender or something. (any other progs that might do the trick, like Cinema 4D or sumthing?)

the w3dm2ase conversion tool just needs to be in the same folder as the files you are converting. Then run it like the readme says and viola you have .ase files.

I suppose it could be Vista throwing a tantrum.

Why didn´t you reference the hierarchy (w3dh) of the Pitbull?

Code:
w3dm2ase -i GUPITBULL_SKN.NEWSKIN.w3dm -k GUPITBULL_SKL.w3dh -o PITBULL.ase
Works fine for me. Now if only I could get the .ase importer running.... Laughing

(The tires etc. are there, just all positioned at 0/0/0)

The converted Pitbull, StealthTank and Buggy... the geometry appears to be intact in the ASE-viewer but I wasn´t able to test this in a proper 3D editor.

The Flametank appears to be divided into several smaller parts, as I didn´t figure out how to correctly feed w3dm2ase with hierarchy data I wasn´t able to convert it. You can find the model (.max) in the first art pack though.

sweet, that really helps.

is the scorpion tank divided like that too? it could replace the flametank if it isnt, doesnt matter all that much.

also, neither blender's nor Max's ASE importer-plugins seem to like the files...
my luck just sucks.
