I was very much a fan of modding RA back in the day and now with the release of Remastered, I'm already reworking Rules.ini to be a replica of my older simple mods.

However, I am wondering if something is possible now:  Adding new units to the game.  I'm hoping it is now with access to the full code, hopefully without actually needing to recompile much.

I've found out the hard way you can't just add, say, a new weapon to Rules.ini and then point to it; I'm not sure what file actually dictates that.  (Such as copying M1Carbine, renaming it AK47 and then pointing a soldier at it means they cannot use a weapon).

Finally, does anyone know what the best utilities are in 2020 for cracking open the Mix files?  Are they still using their own image format?  Is there a modernish converter for it?  Would that be just the tools on the front page?

While my main question in this somewhat rambly post is about how to add new weapons / units using existing assets, I do want to take a crack at getting more in depth and exporting some 3D models of mine for sprites or at least making new little icon/names for retweaked existing units.

Thanks, and again, sorry for sounding like such a noob on modding RA - I haven't done it in years (though I've had my fair share of mod experience with other games).  I'm finding some information but few tutorials specific to Remastered and obviously I'm unsure which tools of 15 years ago are best for the job. heh.

PS:  Is there anyway to package a 'mod' into a Steam Workshop mod for the game or did they not support that heavily?
