Subject description: Work in progress

Figured I'd just split this out into its own thread. The Red Alert Online hospital looks way better than the RA2 hospital, so I decided to take a stab at converting it.

Current progress shot, with source graphic. Main tasks left to complete are:

1) Finish cleaning up remap
2) Color correction
3) Snow frames
4) Damage frames

Neat, though it looks more like a government or university building than a hospital. The architecture, especially the tall windows and the portico seem counter-productive for a hospital.

It looks like the HQ in some imperial country capitol... ideally the poles would have pendants/banners hanging from them.

The scale of it vertically doesn't lend itself to being a hospital either, the building is too tall for its footprint and ornamentation. This is the same issue RA3 assets have.

I believe that I have seen such building with allied sign above main door instead of red cross. It was Allied building definitively, not civilian.

You have - I posted the picture in my original post! It was an allied hospital (hence the health sign on the icon)

Scale/proportions aren't out of the ordinary for older hospitals -- see attached photo. During WWI, hospitals were built in some of the major American cities on a small footprint -- so they built up instead of out.

Removed the remap from the bottom, and the building on top

Cleaned up the other remap and made a bunch of per-pixel corrections to lighting and color

I'm curious but, how would you make at least one shadow frame as this was converted from RA Online?

Nice work.

One thing I like to do when I don't balance the damage across the building is make areas on the other side specifically for fires, blacken it, make it look like soot streamed up the walls from the windows and such.

Maybe we should just remove the flagpoles in front of it? Damage on building itself looks completed and well done for me.

Flag poles are probably very easily not hit as they're thin and you don't have to make a new damaged anim for the flags. #Tongue

Well, I actually mean that since we already have so many kinds of flags in all kinds of assets, there is no need to make a building with flagpoles in front of it, you can always just put another flag building there when making maps with it. Smile

Yeah, I like it without the flag poles. I'll probably a tech flag to it to bring it in line with the other tech buildings.

Here are the current regular, snow, damage, and snow damage frames. Still need to clean up the edges.

Looks pretty good, but you should add icicles on the snow frames, it looks like a white building with a faint dusting of snow, which doesn't match the majority of snow art.
