Mkay, hope people like this. So I suggest a new pbserver-like gamemode in which you will have a set of superweapon-like abilities to spice up the game and will be in control (decidable by the modder) of all the Civilian and/or Mutant forces on the map.

Example 1: Some player is really going to win soon but then you laucnh 3 agressive prism tanks to the back of his base.
Example 2: You can do something by, say, blocking off the road with civilian vehicles to slow down the player. If the vehicles are hard enough, they might work as a barricade.

Do not tell me to make this a regular country because:
A - you will take up a map space.
B - You would not be multiplay-passive
C - You would not be in control of civilians.

You can do this without Ares. Use triggers to grant units to a certain player, give them an invisible building with the support powers. To not take up any map space you could make an invisible unit that deploys instantly into a 0x0 building or some other workaround. I don't think there's any reason to make this an Ares feature.

I mean a slot while starting a game - as observer does. there is certainly a reason as^
1. Reason from above
2. With that workaround civilians might get granted to some player (why would you want that?!) and Mutants a.k.a. hijacked vehicles and such will still be uncontrollable.
3. The player would not be passive as observer - they will need to get destroyed. (For a good reason you cannot destroy builngs out of the map if they are too far away from the bored to be hit by something big and I'm not sure if a 0x0 can even be destroyed. Don't suggest insignificat cuz you would die immidiately, right?)

0x0 can be destroyed if it isn't immune from my experience. I don't know what gamemode you really have in mind but you could do something like survival where 1 player controls or aids the waves against the other players. Then you'd have a time limit that would destroy the "observer" player if the others haven't lost yet.

You can add triggers to every unit/building that you want to swap houses, so you won't get control of anything you don't want either.

By gamemode I mean like you have an option to swap the observer slot for this. Then in game this play would not actually be play but would do nasty things and do things that no one expects while just beign something like random action spawner but not actually random.

You also can't be in control of Mutant. In no way.

Short version: you are not actually in game and do things that players don't expect e.g. enemies in the back or tons of cars on the way.

Ah, the memories of my old pen'n'paper RPG era... where my elven char got a disease and I rolled 6 (one being critical) failures in a row as stamina check...

I could never trust in that dice ever after.

I think I grasp what Parasite wants here but tbh, the engine was not made with this in mind and you can't really sqash all the map actions into the sidebar.

Not to mention that this is an RTS not an RPG.

Then you have no idea how a good RPG game is told. It's not about killing everything moving and the storyteller just drops the Moster Mob of the Week against you.

Still, my point still stands, this would take too much effort and would be practically between useless and lolwutizdiz.

I think this is more something you create yourself on a map.

MO has already made coop missions with Ares right?
Then make your own coop mission on your Ares mod where you have a couple of players vs. the computer and one "Dungeon Master player", who has a couple of "superweapons" to give the computer houses some advantages.

Why are you talking about an RPG? I am not trying to turn an RTS into RPG. I just want a player to be able to make events that othe players playing the match don't expect. But I got that trying to get this is worthless so thank you for the replies.

Because the RPGs have storytellers, m'dear. We just call them Dungeon Masters, Game Masters and such fancy names.

The thing is what I used to is these so called "Dungeon Masters" usually give you guests but do not generate events.
