I have little confidence that modern films can adapt old school sci-fi. They'll disregard the original spirit of it, and hide the fact by pumping with flashy graphics.

But, we can always hope

Well I'm more inclined to think it will be an artsy fartsy movie with impressive scenes that aren't plot points, much like we saw in the new Bladerunner with the flyover of the bug farms or the slow pullback shots showing some impressively brutalist architecture.

The danger with doing that is the Dune story has so much richness of content and overlapping arcs, wasting precious seconds on panoramas means you lost time for activity, unless they make it dialogue heavy...

The slow pacing in BR 2049 was most likely in keeping with the pacing of the first film. Have you watched Villeneuves Sicario?

I have, but not the second.

I only mentioned the first Sicario because Villeneuve was a director on it and BR 2049, but he did not direct Sicario 2.

All I'm saying is that I feel Villeneuve has used different pacing in his movies and that perhaps BR 2049 isn't neccesarily the pacing for Dune.

Perhaps, but part of the allure of Dune is similar, the vast visual material to work with. Like Prometheus which spent a lot of time indoors and zoomed out to massive overview shots, it too had a lot to visualize as a plot point, but less actual activity content so it fit well.
